ABOUT | ASANA | VINYASA

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga transcends gravity in Advanced A Series (Sthira Bhaga).

Advanced A,B,C and D are the last four Series of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition. They are collectively called Sthira Bhaga. Sthira Bhaga means "divine stability" often people translate it as "prayer with the body".

Advanced A is the first of the four Advanced Series. It brings you to new heights in strength, flexibility, concentration and energy sensation. It is here where the lotus flower of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system starts to open up and you can get a glimps of the strength and the grace lying in this ancient practice. The names of the poses in this series often refer to great yogis of the past like Vasistha, Vishwamitra, Astavakra and Matsyendra. Practising the sequence symbolically offers your respect to those great sages.

To get benefit of Advanced A Series it is very important to build it on the strong fundament of Primary and Intermediate Series. Practising Advanced A Series without having achieved profession in the first two series will cause seriously damage. Normally your practice is on that state after about four years of daily Ashtanga Yoga practice.
