The serratus anterior muscle (latin for "anterior sawmuscle“ or "anterior sawtooth muscle“; outdated name: Musculus serratus lateralis, Jenaer Nomina Anatomica 1935) is a skeletal muscle of the shoulder girdle. It runs from the chest towards the back and build a characteristic pattern which resembles the teeth of a saw and thus giving it it's name. It is sometimes also called the boxer muscle.
